Trends in fish farming
World farmed-fish production is growing regularly. In 2005, fish farming represented 48.1 % of world aquacultural production (animal and plant) with a 5.4 % increase compared with 2004 figures.
Fish rearing produces 27% of the world’s fish consumption (industrial fishing included). The farms are mainly fresh water (inland).
Principal kinds of farmed fish
The production of amberjack is the first exclusively marine production and amounts to 160 000 tonnes
