Sector Challenges
In France, cultivated macroalgae are sold partly to the food industry (Undaria pinnatifida ...), and partly to the parapharmaceutical industry (Asparagopsis armata, Padina pavonia).
Studies are in progress to assess the potential of these vegetables as water purifiers, especially for aquaculture water purification (Seapura project).
Microalgae play a key role as fodder for the shellfish farming industry. Since the cultivation techniques employed until now have shown their limits, new pathways are being explored in order to improve the nutritional value of the cells used as fodder.
